Memorial Cemetery

Located in historic St. Genevieve, Mo
Located on Jefferson Street between the 500 and 800 blocks. This very old cemetery is in a run down condition and was closed down after reports of bodies being placed to close together. About 5000 souls are said to be buried here, all between 1787 and 1879. Many graves are unknown and all have been neglected. None of the old wooden crosses and markers remain and most of the old French iron crosses have been stolen. A foundation has been started to try and protect it. It is not surprising that there are legends and stories of it being haunted. One of the most famous is that if you’re in the cemetery at the stroke of midnight, you’re doomed to remain there forever. Reports of apparitions and orbs have also been documented.
