Centralia Haunted House

Centralia, Mo

The spirit of a young girl in old type clothing has been seen walking around the upstairs. Shadows have appeared on the walls appearing at first to be hand puppets but quickly change to elaborate dragon like images and then fade away. A dark shadow that appears (in daylight) and speeds quickly from one room to another on the bottom floor has also been witnessed.

The Kendrick House

Carthage, Mo

This historic home dates back to the 1840’s. Was used as a headquarters during the Civil War. It is rumored to be haunted. Items are in sometimes in different places. There are reports of people being touched during tours. Also a shadow man has been seen. One of the ghosts is thought to be Pauline Janney, who died in 1899 at the age of four while suffering from a spinal condition. She haunts an upstairs window she used to watch other kids out of. She is seen sometimes seen peeking out of it. There have been reports of an African American man wearing a white shirt standing and looking out one of the windows in the slave quarters, staring off into the distance. The sound of harmonica music has been recorded in the slave quarters as well. They have several reports of interaction with a spirit that is referred to as “Carrot” which is more than likely the nickname for one of the children that passed on the property. Shadow figures are also seen upstairs and until recently there was a voodoo protection on the home that the slaves placed upon the home to protect the women and children in the home during the war.

Carterville Haunted House

Carterville, Mo

Built in 1907 for the town doctor. For thirty or fifty years the house was reserved for the practicing physician. That back story now explains why he is affectionately nicknamed, Doc. Who knows who he really is, if anything more than a series of unexplainable phenomena? Nothing scary or definitive has ever happened really. Just things like creaky stairs or flickering lights, or it seems like if anyone is up too late, things will unexplainable fall off tables and shelves. Is thought to hang out mostly in the basement, which is the oldest part of the house.
